MONROE - Court should be in session in the new Green County Justice Center in late September.

Green County Clerk Mike Doyle said Wednesday the new 64,700-square-foot facility remains on schedule for completion Aug. 31. The Green County court system, which includes the clerk of circuit court, the circuit court judge's offices, register of probate, district attorney's office, child support offices, court commissioner and corporation counsel, will move into the building Sept. 17, 18 and 21, Doyle said.

Doyle said no court cases will be scheduled while court services are moving from the downtown courthouse into the new justice center.

A second branch for the Green County Circuit Court was created by the Legislature in 2007 based on an increased caseload for the county.

Green County Circuit Court Judge James Beer was elected to another term in April. Monroe attorney Tom Vale also was elected in April to fill the Second Branch position. Vale takes office Aug. 1. He will start hearing cases when the new facility opens. Until then, he'll share an office with the register of probate in the courthouse and train with Judge Beer.

During the first two weeks in September, the Wisconsin Public Defender and Wisconsin Probation and Parole offices, University of Wisconsin Extension, Green County Emergency Management and Green County Emergency Medical Services will move into the justice center.

On Sept. 11, 2007 the Green County Board of Supervisors voted to build a $12.4 million justice center due to a need for extra space and more security. Construction began in September 2008.

No formal grand opening has been scheduled.

There still will be county offices in the Green County Courthouse after the justice system in relocated. The clerk, treasurer, register of deeds and finance director will remain in the Courthouse. In addition, Green County Tourism, Green County Zoning and Green County Development Corporation will move from the Pleasant View Complex to the Courthouse.

Those offices are expected to move into the Courthouse in October.
