MONROE - The amount of 2009 delinquent taxes is only slightly higher than last year - even though the total bill for Green County taxpayers was $4 million higher.
The second installment of tax payments was due July 31.
As of Oct. 1, just more than 2 percent of 2009 taxes, or $1.3 million, has yet to be paid.
At the same time last year, 2.09 percent, or $1.27 million, was still outstanding for 2008 tax collections.
The percentage difference between the two years is nominal, and both rates are close to those in past years, said Green County Treasurer Sherri Hawkins.
The total tax bill for 2009 is $64.5 million. For 2008, $60.4 million was collected.
Public and vocational technical schools taxes, totaling $33.3 million, make up more than half of 2009 taxes.
The county has a total of $2.16 million, from last year and previous years combined, in back taxes outstanding.
As of Oct. 1, no elected officials were on the list of delinquent taxpayers.
