MONROE - An inmate at the Green County Jail was taken to the Monroe Clinic Monday after deputies found him unresponsive in his cell.
Timothy J. Bennett, 43, was on the floor when deputies found him around 4:30 a.m.
Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick said deputies found the man with no apparent pulse and he wasn't breathing. They administered CPR and used an automated external defibrillator. He was then taken to the hospital. He remains hospitalized, Roderick said in a press release Monday.
Roderick said deputies had checked on the man, who was in the Huber Dorm of the jail, where inmates who work are allowed to stay, less than five minutes before the incident.
"The inmate had a pre-existing condition and it is believed that this was a medical incident," Roderick said.
