MONROE - Plans by Monroe Clinic to build a hospice center on land at Pleasant View Park are expected to take a step forward Tuesday when the county board considers leasing the land to the medical facility.

The Green County board of supervisors is scheduled to consider a resolution authorizing the county to lease about 13 acres of land to Monroe Clinic for $1 per year for 99 years.

The patch of wooded land is currently a county park located just west of the Pleasant View Complex off Wisconsin 81 northwest of the city limits.

Monroe Clinic Director of Marketing Patricia Lawson said the plans are still in an "exploratory" phase. Fundraising is still needed to finalize exact numbers for the project, including the size of the facility.

"We need to have community involvement if we're going to have anything sustainable about this," Lawson said. "We have a good understanding of what's needed; that has been identified for some time now."

The board meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the county board room on the second floor of the Green County Courthouse.
