MONROE - It will take more than just commitment to utter "I do" at a wedding ceremony.
In Green County it will take another $20.
The Green County Board of Supervisors Wednesday raised the fee for a marriage license from $65 to $85. The fee for a marriage license hasn't been raised since 2002, Green County Clerk Mike Doyle told the board. Doyle said $45 goes to the state and the rest stays with the county.
Rock County charges about $90 for a marriage license and Dane County charges about $115, Doyle said.
The increase goes into effect immediately.
Doyle said the county issues about 200 marriage licenses every year.
The board also voted to support a resolution to increase land record filing fees to $25.
Several counties in the state have suggested the fee to file land records increase to $25. The county charges $11 for the first page of every land record page and $2 for each additional page.
Most of the records end up costing the real estate companies about $19 to $26, Green County Treasurer Sherri Hawkins told the board.
Out of the $11 the county keeps $4 for general funds and $1 for the county's public access fund to view land records on line. The extra money would help the county be in line with costs other counties charge and also increase the money for general revenue by abount $168,000 a year.
