MONROE - A former Monroe woman with a history of narcotics addiction was sentenced to 15 days in jail, two years of probation and 150 hours of community service on Friday, April 27, in Green County Circuit Court, after she pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possessing narcotics.

Jezmin L. Blake, 21, Mount Horeb, was initially charged on counts of possessing an illegally obtained prescription and selling narcotic pills.

The charges stem from two undercover drug deals near Monroe Middle School last July, when Blake reportedly sold Vicodin and pills containing oxycodone and acetaminophen to a source working for drug enforcement agents.

She pleaded guilty to Class I felony count that had been modified from a delivery to a possession charge. The court dismissed but read in a misdemeanor count of possessing an illegally obtained prescription.

If she complies with her probation conditions, the charges will be expunged from her record under a state statute that grants leniency to first-time offenders under the age of 21.

District Attorney Gary Luhman cited Blake's cooperation with drug enforcement and her clean criminal record as factors in the relatively light sentence.

"Ms. Blake really does not have a criminal record," Luhman said.

Blake told Judge James Beer she didn't use any drugs in high school but started abusing prescription narcotics when she was 18. By last summer, she was using heroin.

"That's why I moved out of Monroe, to get myself clean," she said. Of the charges, she told the judge, "I understand what I did was wrong."

Beer said her lack of a criminal record impressed him.

"You're barely 21. You have a real opportunity to turn your life around," said Beer. But he warned, "I won't allow you to have expungement if you don't follow through."
