Willis H. Babler

Willis (Bill) H. Babler passed away on March 2, 2015 at his home at Aster Retirement Community in Cottage Grove. Bill was born November 1, 1916 in Monroe, WI to Henry E Babler and Ida Geigel Babler. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1933 and continued on to the University of Wisconsin, graduating there in 1938 from the School of Letters and Sciences. He worked for some time as an engineer and spent time exploring the United States, including prospecting for gold in California. Eventually, he settled in Milwaukee and started a construction company. In 1972, he married Winifred Guyant and they later retired to the Wisconsin Rapids area. In Wisconsin Rapids, he was active at the Lowell Senior Center and delivered meals on wheels. After Winifred's death, he moved to Cottage Grove's Aster Retirement Community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his two brothers and their wives, Robert and Rosabel, Merlyn and Josephine; his nephew, Dale Babler; and his long-time friend, Marion Liska. He is survived by his cousin, Maryellen Sullivan; his nieces, Linda Babler and Jody Babler Smith (Mark); his nephew Gary Babler; great-niece, Robyn Smith; and great-nephew, Joseph Smith. He is also survived by nieces Bea Dombrowski and Marge Ross and nephews, George Guyant and Bob Guyant.

A memorial celebration of life will be held Friday, April 3, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31st. Ave., Monroe. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe.
