William R. "Dick" Cramer

FREEPORT - William R. "Dick" Cramer, 86 years old, of Freeport and formerly of Orangeville, passed away on Mon., Jan. 20, 2014 at Heritage Woods in Freeport.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1927 in Freeport, the son of Wm. W. and Gratia F. (Richards) Cramer. He married Irma L. Dir on June 21, 1947.

Dick was a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1948. He operated the Cramer Funeral Home in Orangeville from 1953 until retiring in 1991. He served as the Stephenson County Coroner from 1972 thru 1988.

He was a member of the Orangeville Fire Dept since 1953, retiring in 1985 as fire chief. He was past president of the Orangeville School Board.

Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Cramer of Monroe, and Jay (Ramona) Cramer of Owens Cross Roads, AL, one daughter, Janice (Glenn) Burchell of Freeport, six grandchildren, Ashley, Austin, and Michael Cramer, Jaime (Shane) Buss, Justin Burchell, and Breah Burcell Jacobs, six great-grandchildren, and a good friend, Maxine Bowles of O'Fallon, Il.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Irma, and his sister, Gayle (LeRoy) Wilson.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at the Schwarz Park Blvd. Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd., Freeport with Associate Pastor Willis Schwichtenberg of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. The visitation will be on Thursday at the Schwarz Chapel from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.

A memorial has been established in his memory for the Orangeville Fire Dept.
