BRODHEAD - William Joseph Weihmeir, 81, Brodhead, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Monroe Clinic Hospital from Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS).

He was born May 29, 1926, the son of William and Anna (Murphy) Weihmeir, Sr. in Hopedale, IL. William married Mary Jean Marley on December 1, 1956, in Nokomis, IL.

William farmed his entire life, first in Hopedale, IL, then Coloma, WI for several years before settling in Brodhead in 1974. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Brodhead. He was a U.S. Army staff sergeant with the 7th division in the P.T.O during World War II, and was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze battle star, Victory Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal Japan and a citation for Meritorious Service.

Survivors include his wife Mary; six daughters and their children, Bernadette Weihmeir of Rockton, IL; Julie (Bobby) Killey of Lino Lakes, MN, children Emmett, Tristan and Katrina; Cindy (Alan) Hermanson of Monroe, children Cody and Ashley; Jane (Bruce) Creen of St. Charles, IL; Cheryl (Chris) Nettesheim of Oconomowoc, children Joshua, April and Joseph; and Betty (Kurt) Marquardt of Poynette, children Trevor and Abbey; a brother, Frank Weihmeir, Morton, IL; and a sister, Helen Kirk, Morton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private funeral Mass, with Father Michael Moon presiding, was held Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Albany, followed by a military graveside service at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Albany. A memorial fund is being established. The D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home, Brodhead, assisted with the arrangements.
