William F. Reed, age 87 of Monroe, died on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Bill was born July 19, 1922 in Morrison, IL, the son of William Leon and Mabel (Hinsel) Reed. He graduated from Morrison High School in 1941 and married Marjorie Townsend on May 2, 1942 in Hanover, IL.

Bill worked as a mechanic in Savanna, IL and later farmed in Rock City, IL for 20 years until moving to Monroe in 1977.

He was a lifetime member of the Brown Swiss Breeders Assoc., a member of the Dakota school board and president of the P.T.A., an honorary member of the IL FFA, and was a 4-H leader and little league coach in Savanna.

He is survived by five children, Marjorie Niesman of Pearl City, IL, Penny (Donald) Bear of Cedar Rapids, IA, Dorothy Hayes of Monroe, William (Sally) Reed of Davis, IL, and Debbie Reed of Monroe; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Powell of Prophetstown, IL; a brother, John (Bev) Reed of Rock Falls, IL; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Reed of Morrison, IL.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie in 1997; his parents; a son, Richard L. Reed in 1971; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Michael Niesman; two sisters, Lila Bock and Maryanna White; and three sons-in-law, Steve Hayes, Bill Niesman, and Arnold Polhill.

Private family services will be held at a later date. The NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, is assisting the family.
