DARLINGTON - Wilbert M. Heins, age 89 of Darlington, WI, died on Friday, February 22, 2008 at Lafayette County Manor in Darlington. He was born on October 16, 1918 in Kendall Township, WI, to Louis and Suzan (Tubbs) Heins. On March 5, 1946, he married Johanna M. Murphy. Johanna preceded him in death on February 11, 1985.

Wilbert farmed in Willow Springs Township until 1974 and then drove truck for the Calamine Cheese Factory.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Calamine.

Wilbert was a World War II veteran and the recipient of a Purple Heart. He was a member of Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post #214, the Disabled American Veteran Chapter #67, and the Darlington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5268.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, playing cards and was a great Milwaukee Brewers Fan

Survivors include his children: David (Connie) Heins of Darlington, Betty (Gary) Meighan of Darlington, Yvonne (Jim) Mick of Canon City, Colorado, Stanley (Jeanette) Heins of Mineral Point; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera Hanson of Monroe; two brothers: Bernard (Margaret) Heins of Rockford, Illinois and Delbert (Joanne) Heins of Monroe; his sister-in-law, Arlene Heins of Monroe; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, James L. Heins on August 13, 1986; a grandson, Brian D. Meighan on October 7, 1993; four brothers: Francis, Guerdon, Louis, and one in infancy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2008 at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 104 E. Harriet St., Darlington, WI, with Fr. Monte Robinson and Fr. Randy Budnar officiating. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Truman, WI with full military honors accorded by the Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post #214. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at STEIL CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, WI, where a Scripture service will be at 2:45 p.m.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Lafayette County Manor for their kind care and support. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials preferred.
