Wendell A. Brunkow age 92 of Monroe, Wisconsin died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Harbor House in Monroe. He was born December 10, 1919 east of Twin Grove in Jefferson Township, Green County, Wisconsin the son of Frank and Lulu (Tracy) Brunkow and graduated from Juda High School. Wendell entered the U.S. Army on February 12, 1941 at Milwaukee, WI, served as an Administrator for Army Air Force Base Unit, and was discharged on December 5, 1945 at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. He received the American Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, & Victory Medal.

Wendell and Irene Hein were married on April 24, 1941 in Denver, Colorado. He was a rural mail carrier for Monroe Post Office, was a flight instructor, member of the Civil Air Patrol, President of Pilots Association, member of Zion United Methodist Church in Juda, & enjoyed flying, boating, golfing, & fishing. Wendell and Keith Wainwright were instrumental in starting the Monroe Balloon Rallys, first held at the Monroe Airport. But we know his pride and joy was his pug dog, Max.

Surviving is his brother, Robert Brunkow of Juda and several Nieces & Nephews. He was predeceased by his Parents; sister, Helen Gissing in 1993; & brother, Kenneth Brunkow in 1996.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Zion United Methodist Church in Juda, WI with Rev. Vicki Brantmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery at rural Juda, WI.

Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service at 11:00 A.M. on Friday at the Church.

A memorial fund is being established in Wendell's memory. The family would like to thank the staff at Harbor House and to Monroe Clinic Hospice for their wonderful care.
