Walter Krahenbuhl, age 92 of Monroe, died Monday, December 4, 2017 at Azura Memory Care in Monroe. Walter was born on October 15, 1925 in Darlington, the son of Ernest and Alice (Stalder) Krahenbuhl Sr. He began making cheese at the age of 17 before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1943. He was stationed in the Pacific during World War II and returned to cheesemaking at various area factories following his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Ruth A. Dettwiler on February 6, 1954 at St. John's United Church of Christ. In 1970, Walter began his cheesemaking business at Town Hall Dairy in Monticello. Following his retirement in 1990, he established a ServiceMaster franchise in Monroe. Walter was a member of the Monroe Bible Church, V.F.W. post #2312, and volunteered at the Historic Cheesemaking Center. He spent the last 11 years as a dedicated husband and caregiver to his wife, Ruth.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Krahenbuhl of Monroe; six children, Randy (Michelle) Krahenbuhl of Green Bay, Daniel (Jennifer) Krahenbuhl of Monroe, Diane (Craig) Buchanan of Monroe, Dorene (Michael) Wells of Oconomowoc, Heidi (Paul) DuCharme of Verona, and Daphne (Lance) Sathoff of Monroe; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret (Joe) Ruppert of Darlington; and a brother, Ben (Karen) Krahenbuhl of Platteville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joane, in 1960; three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 11:00 A.M., at the Monroe Bible Church. Interment with military rites will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be on Friday, December 8, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Walter's name to the Monroe Bible Church or Historic Cheesemaking Center. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net.
