Walter K. R. Genz, age 81, of Janesville, died on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at his home. He was born on March 21, 1931 in Monroe County, WI, the son of the late William and Frieda (Lietz) Genz. Walter farmed in the Monroe County area before joining the US Army on November 17, 1953. He was Honorably discharged on November 9, 1955, serving most of his time Germany. After returning from serving his Country, Walter married Luann R. Prien on August 3, 1968 in Monroe, WI.

Walter was a very proud and hardworking man, who always made very practical decisions. He had a very good sense of humor and enjoyed playing jokes on his friends. Walter worked at GMAD in Janesville, retiring in 1990 after almost 35 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, UAW #95 Retirees, and Moose Lodge #197. In his free time, Walter enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, gardening, and taking care of his yard.

He is survived by his wife: Luann; two children: Bruce (Joanie) Genz of Beloit and Karla Hale of Janesville; three grandchildren: Bridgette Hale, Scott Hale and Lindsey Hale all of Janesville; his brother: Nielan (Carol) Genz of Jefferson, WI; sisters and brother-in-law: Anita and Joe Best of Monroe, WI, and Peggy Prien and her partner, Dulce "Candy" Lezaro of Oakland, CA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister: Fern Friske; and two brothers: Ernest Genz and Avery Genz.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 2130 Mt. Zion Ave., Janesville with Rev. Maribel Celiz officiating. Entombment will be at Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
