Virginia B. Mummert, age 93 of Darlington, WI, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. She was born August 17, 1917 in Jo Daviess County, IL, the daughter of Wilbur and Floy (Downs) Abraham-Saalsaa. Virginia attended Dunbarton and Darlington High School. She grew up and raised her family in Lafayette County. Virginia was united in marriage to Milford Homb in 1936 in Lancaster, WI, he preceded her in death in 1954; she then married Harlan Jackson in 1961, he also preceded her in death in 1965; and on October 7, 1968 she married Glenn Mummert in Darlington. She worked at Micro Switch in Warren, IL, and later as a clerk for Darlington Dry Goods in Darlington. In 1969, she began working at Borg Instrument in Darlington, where she remained until her retirement in 1982.
Virginia is survived by her husband: Glenn at home; three daughters: Barb (Ron) Komprood of Darlington, Connie (Eric) Vogel of Elkhorn, WI, and Ann (Carl Malizio) Homb of Madison, WI; one daughter-in-law: Carol Homb of Darlington; three step-children: Sheldon "Shelly" (Connie) Mummert of Polo, IL, Todd (Renet) Mummert of Lanark, IL, and Rhonda (Tim) Shoeny of Lena, IL; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Marvis (LaVerne) Carpenter, Lilas Saalsaa, and Marion Olson all of Darlington; and one sister-in-law: Clara McCarthy of Darlington. She was preceded in death by one son: Jerry Homb; one granddaughter: Allison Hass; one sister: Burnett Erickson; one brother: Howard Abraham; and two brothers-in-law: Paul Saalsaa and Ordean Olson.
Virginia enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, bowling, quilting, and embroidery work.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 10, 2010, at 1:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Park Place (GPS Users: 130 West Cornelia Street) in Darlington with Rev. Carol Johnson of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington.
