Vance L. Anderson, age 91 of Brodhead, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Pleasant View Nursing home. He was born in Albany, WI on May 25, 1920; the son of Andrew and Minnie (Cleveland) Anderson. He graduated from Albany High School in 1939. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII, serving with the 8th Air Force. Vance was involved in many battles and campaigns, serving in Egypt, Libya, Tunisian, Naples, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and central Europe. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, with 2 silver and 1 bronze stars, 5 overseas bars, 1 service stripe, and the good conduct medal. Vance married Beatrice Roehl on January 26, 1946 in Janesville. Vance owned and operated Anderson Painting, which he did until the early 1980's.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the V F W and American Legion, a member and past president of Green County Shriners, and Past Master of Bicknell Lodge, and a 32 degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Bea Anderson of Brodhead; sons: Terry (Mary) Anderson of Detroit, MI, and Greg Anderson of Brodhead; 4 grandchildren: Dionne (Joe) Vondra of Reno, NV, Ty (Gidget) Anderson of Brodhead, Tara (Jeff) Trees of Detroit, and Wendy Anderson of Detroit; 8 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and 4 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, May 7, 2012 at Everson Funeral Home, Brodhead, with Reverend Peder Johanson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Brodhead. A visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 am, until the time of service.
