Traffic Accidents: Aug. 7, 2009

Green County Sheriff

MONROE - Two people were injured in a one-vehicle accident at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in the W500 block of County E in the Town of Decatur. Deputies report a vehicle driven by Autumn C. Garcia, 16, Pecatonica, Ill., was eastbound and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went off the roadway and struck a tree. Garcia and her passenger, Rachel E. Melancen, 18, Pecatonica, Ill., were wearing seatbelts and sustained injuries. Both airbags deployed as a result of the crash. The vehicle received severe damage and was towed from the scene. Garcia was arrested for first offense operate a motor vehicle while under the influence, open intoxicants, underage drinking and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle. Melancen will be cited for underage drinking. The incident remains under investigation with other citations pending. Brodhead EMS and Fire were also dispatched.

Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - One person was injured in a one-vehicle accident at about 10 p.m. Wednesday on County F in Blanchard township. Deputies report Jason Horner, 39, Blanchardville, was southbound when he lost control of his vehicle and left the road, striking a tree. Horner was transported to Lafayette County Memorial Hospital for treatment. Horner was later arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and a valid warrant. Horner was treated and released, and then transported and jailed. Blanchardville Fire Department, Blanchard Ambulance and Yellowstone Lake personnel assisted at the scene.
