Thomas J. Schuetz, age 93 of Monroe, died on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, in the loving care of his family at his home. He was born on December 4, 1916, the son of Jacob and Elise (Tschannen) Schuetz. Tom and Ida Aeschlimann were married on January 3, 1942 at St. John's United Church of Christ by the late Rev. P.C. Kehle. They had met as members of the Monroe Swiss Turn & Schwing Club at Turner Hall.

He farmed with his wife Ida in Clarno Township until their retirement in 1975. He was honored with the Kiwanis Club "Farm Safety Award" and the "Outstanding Senior Conservation Farmer" awarded by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Tom was past president of the Monroe Co-op and Franklin Cheese Factories. His interest in conservation led him to charter membership and presidency of Smock Valley Watershed.

Tom was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. He served on the Church Council and various committees, including the Garden Apartments, where he entertained the residents for many years as Santa Claus. He later volunteered for Meals on Wheels and grocery delivery to shut-ins. His craftsmanship as part of the St. John's UCC men's woodworking group benefited the work of the church.

Surviving are his daughters, Ruth (Karl) Drye of Crystal Lake, IL, Mary (John) Wyttenbach of Monroe, Kristie (Paul) Lueck of Darlington; grandchildren, Brian (Kristen Smith) Drye, Andrea (Jason) Plachetka, Allison (Avery) Alexander, Ian Lueck, Lana (Mat) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Easton and Tanith Plachetka, Nadia Alexander; and brother, Albert (Ena) Schuetz of Monroe.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ida; brothers, William, Jacob Jr., Walter; and sisters, Clara Albright, Lillian Gmur and Helen Schuetz.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at St. John's United Church of Christ. Officiating will be Rev. William T. Mike Heath, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. A memorial fund is being established in Tom's memory.
