Thelma Elaine Ausmus

Thelma Elaine Ausmus age 93 of Monroe, died Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. Thelma was born on July 22, 1920 in Clarno Township, Green County, the daughter of Emil and Bertha (Trumpy) Fritsch. She grew up on the Fritsch farm East of the Clarno Zion Church. Thelma attended East Clarno rural school, graduated from Monroe High School in 1938, and then worked in Monroe and Madison. Thelma married Arley Ausmus on March 25, 1945 at the East Clarno Zion United Methodist Church where she was a life-long member, taught Sunday School, served on Committess, and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a longtime member of the Richland Homemakers. Thelma and Arly farmed in Clarno Township and were married for 51 years before his death on March 27, 1998.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Ausmus of Monroe, Barbara (Mike) Lowe of Stoughton; a son, James Ausmus of Monroe; five grandchildren, Alan (Jessica) Rupnow, Carrie (Tim) Rupnow Hennessy, Melissa (Jerry) Lowe Gohre, Rebecca Lowe, Nicholas Lowe, four great-grandchildren, Arly and Jonah Rupnow, Katelynn and Evan Gohre; a niece, Margit Asmus; nephew, Lawrence (Donna) Asmus; and very special cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Gretel Rupnow; a sister, Lois McCammon; a brother, Arthur Fritsch; and a nephew, Clarence Asmus.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at the East Clarno Zion United Methodist Church, W5292 County Highway P, Monroe, with Pastor Inwa Shon officiating. Interment will be in the East Clarno Church Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, and at the church on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
