ORANGEVILLE - Steven K. Samuelson DVM, age 56, of Orangeville, passed away on February 10, 2010 in Clearfield, PA. He was born on August 15, 1953 in Newport, RI, to Winfield and Nancy (Poyten) Samuelson. He was a graduate of Elgin High School, Elgin, IL. He received his Associate degree in Science from Elgin Community College in Elgin, and a Bachelor's in Science at the University of Illinois, a Masters Degree in Science from Illinois State University and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois Urbana, IL. He married Debbie Selin on August 9, 1975 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, IL. In 1982 he became a veterinarian partner with the Orangeville Animal Health Service in Orangeville, IL. He attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freeport, and was a Corporate member and Treasurer for the Norman B. Barr Children's Christian Camp in Williams Bay, WI. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, Academy of Rural Veterinarians, The American Association of Bovine Practitioners. He was a member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association. He was the founder and current president of the FFA Alumni for Orangeville High School, and founding member and First President of ACT. (A Community Together) in Orangeville. He also served as a school board member for 10 years. Steven enjoyed performing with his guitar and going snow skiing and anything involving his children, family and camp at Lake Geneva. He enjoyed the company of his two rescued pet Boston Terriers, Katie and Molly.
Surviving is his wife, Debbie of Orangeville; one son, Jared (Annette) Samuelson of Rhode Island; one daughter, Jessie (Alex) Mills DVM of Orangeville, IL; one grandson, Andrew Samuelson of Rhode Island; his mother, Nancy Samuelson of Delavan, WI; two brothers, Scott (Linda) Samuelson of Roscoe, IL and Peter (Chris) Samuelson of Sharon, WI.
He was preceded in death by his father, Winfield in 2006; his grandparents, Walter and Helen Samuelson and Stephen and Pearl Poyten; and his mother-in-law, June (Eric) Selin.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Orangeville High School Gymnasium. Pastor Mark Luepke will officiate the service.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the school gymnasium.
A memorial has been established in his name for the Norman B. Barr Christian Children's Camp and the FFA Alumni Scholarship Fund of Orangeville High School.
