MONROE/PLATTEVILLE - Steven R. Swart, age 54, of Monroe, formerly of Platteville, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 15, 2008 near his home in Monroe. Steven was born on June 24, 1953 in Hazel Green, the son of Robert A. and Betty J. (Kies) Swart. He graduated from Platteville High School in 1971. While in High School, Steven co-oped with Scott's Implement in Platteville and he continued to work there while attending Southwest Technical College in Fennimore. Steve graduated with a degree in Agricultural Mechanics in 1973 from Southwest Technical College. After graduation, he worked at Studer's Super Service in Monroe and later operated his own agricultural machinery repair service.

Steven married Joan Johnson on December 27, 1975. He attended Hope Evangelical Free Church in Monroe and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Monroe. Steven also enjoyed pitching horseshoes and playing cards. Socializing and participating in family gatherings were two of his favorite activities.

Steven is survived by: three daughters, Melissa (Rob) Martin, Madison, Shauna Swart, Marina Del Rey, CA and Nicole Swart, Madison; his parents, Robert and Betty Swart, Platteville; four brothers and sisters, Kristie (Dennis) Popp, Belmont, Gregory (Julie) Swart, Auburndale, WI, Susan (Jeff) Hillary, Goodyear, AZ and Jeff Swart, Los Angeles, CA; five nephews and one niece; two great-nephews and one great-niece.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Marc Eugene Swart on November 15, 1955; his paternal grandparents, William and Marie (Hinman) Swart and his maternal grandparents, John W. and Lucille (Tracy) Kies.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville with the Pastor Rick Haworth officiating. Burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Family and friends are welcome from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 21 and from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday, all at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers and plants, a Steven R. Swart Memorial Fund has been established.
