Selma Ann Wunschel (Steiner), age 86 of Monroe, passed away peacefully June 16th, 2016 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family and her puppy Joey.
Selma was born February 10, 1930 to Thomas and Emma (Freitag) Steiner. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1948 and was united in marriage to Wendel (Pete) Wunschel on November 20, 1951 at St. John's Church in Monroe.
She and Pete enjoyed many years of farming and raising their family south of Juda, near Oakley. Later she enjoyed working at the Monroe Veterinary Service, Larson Cheese, Zim's Dairy, and Alp & Dell. It was at the Veterinary Service where she fell in love with a Siberian Husky puppy to be named Pandy and brought her home to the family. That was the start of the entire family becoming dog lovers. She was a former member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and more recently St. John's United Church of Christ. She was a member of the Monroe Moose Lodge.
She is survived by her three children, Barb Ziltner, Judy (Randy) Miller, and Jeff (Marie) Wunschel all of Monroe; five grandchildren, Ryan Ziltner, Lisa (Andy) Beach, Terri (Stuart) Grossen, Melissa (Chris) Wuebben, Nicole (Andrew) Josephs, all of Monroe; two step-grandchildren, Josh (Lindsey) Golackson of Menasha, WI and Sarah (Trevor) Vordermann of Oregon, WI; sixteen great-grandchildren and one to arrive in July. She is further survived by a sister, Gladys Steiner of Monroe. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband on Feb. 23, 2007, brother & sister-in-law Clarence & Norma Steiner, sister & brother-in-law Marion & Victor Wehinger and great-granddaughter Amelia Josephs.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor David Busker officiating. Interment will be in Union Church Cemetery, Oakley, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Selma's name to Monroe Clinic Hospice, Green County Humane Society, or St. John's United Church of Christ.
