Samuel David Wendler, 70, passed away on January 7, 2012, with his sister Nancy at his side, at Weiss Memorial Hospital, Chicago IL.

Sam was born October 1, 1941 in Janesville, the son of Melvin and Mildred (Kundert) Wendler.

Sam graduated from Brodhead High School in 1960. He completed two years at University of Villanova before changing careers. In 1968 he graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Respiratory Therapy in Lancaster, PA. After completing his degree in Respiratory Therapy, he worked at a number of hospitals before settling down in Chicago, IL. For the next 22 years Sam divided his work between Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He retired to take care of his sister Jane until her death and then cared for his Aunt Rosemary. Sam was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Marjorie (Jim) Jacobson, Whitewater, Mary (Larry) Whitehead, Juda and Nancy Rivet Henniker, NH, two brothers Elvan (June) Wendler, Brodhead and Michael Wendler, Monroe, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, brothers-in-law and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law and sister Jim and Jane E Lewis, and sisters, Carolyn M Hayes, Susan F Knight and two siblings in childhood Frederick and Debra Wendler.

Sam was a wonderful and caring brother, uncle, nephew, brother-in-law, cousin and friend, and will be sadly missed by all.

We are so grateful to Sam's wonderful friends, as they visited Sam and ran errands for him during his illness, so, a very special thank you to; Arlynne, Louise, Sharon, Angela, Andi, Linda, Pam, Sue, Keith and Ray.

A memorial mass was held in Chicago, and per Sam's wishes, we will celebrate Sam's life at a memorial mass at St. Rose Catholic Church in Brodhead with Father Mick Moon in late spring of 2012.
