Ryan Wilson passed from this life on Monday, April 23, 2018 surrounded by the love of family, friends and the prayers of many. His final days were spent at the farm he cherished.

He was born June 29, 1947 in Escondido, California-the third child and only son of Joseph and Mary Wilson. A happy child blessed with an impish sense of humor, Ryan lived an idyllic childhood in southern California where he cultivated a lifelong passion for gardening and landscaping.

He attended UC San Diego and went on to graduate UC Berkley with a degree in civil engineering. Throughout his life he practiced engineering in California, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Ryan's adult life was spent in partnership with Claudia - his wife and best friend. Together they raised 5 children and cherished 11 grandchildren and 4 daughters by marriage. Their home was always open and hundreds of people came and went over the years. The dinner table had extra seats for friends and visitors. There was room for all.

Ryan was a lifelong scholar who filled his library with hundreds of books and had an unquenchable curiosity. As an entrepreneur, he started and owned a civil engineering firm, retaining wall company, two restaurants, a commercial apple orchard, bed and breakfast and various side ventures. He loved working with Main Street Monroe helping revitalize downtown and hosted dozens of school field trips at the family farm.

But Ryan never counted riches in a bank account or ledger. He was a man enriched by the relationships he created with other people and a lifelong walk with God. His treasures were laid up in heaven.

On behalf of Ryan, the Wilson family would like to thank Monroe Clinic Hospice for making it possible to die with dignity and comfort at home.

A visitation is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 4 at Shriner Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe, Wisconsin. A private memorial service for family and friends is 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at Honeywind Farm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ryan's memory to Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp, c/o Guy Marshall, 2750 Saemann Ave., Sheboygan, WI 53081.
