Ruth E. French, age 89 of Monroe, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Graceland Manor in Monroe. She was born February 14, 1921 in Browntown, the daughter of Lemuel and Julia (Clark) Wells and graduated from Albany High School.
Ruth and Leonard "Spike" French were married on September 4, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa. She worked at Burgess Battery for a short time, and then as a bookkeeper for her and her husband's trucking business. Ruth was a wonderful wife, mom, and grandmother.
Surviving are her children, Robert (Elaine) French of Baraboo, Donna (David) Severson of Monroe, Duane "Butch" (Amy Gutzmer) French of Monroe, and Diana (Donald) Westphal of Monroe; sixteen grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her parents; husband in 1993; great-grandson, Robert Allen; great-granddaughter, Savannah French; sister, Dorothy Potter; and brothers, James in infancy, Franklin, and Gordon.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe with Pastor Brian Henry of The Potter's House officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
