EVANSVILLE - Ruby Lily Bernstein, age 89, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Stoughton Hospital. She was born on January 29, 1920 in Albany Township, Albany, Wisconsin, the daughter of High Eugene and Alma L. (Sylvester) Laughridge. She attended and graduated from Albany High School. Ruby married Herbert James Bernstein on April 9, 1939 at the parsonage in Albany. They moved to Evansville in 1943 and farmed for many years. She later worked at the Ben Franklin store in Evansville. She enjoyed music, sewing, researching the family genealogy, crafts and dancing. She watched over the neighborhood and the neighbors, loved her family and was a loving mother and grandmother. She belonged to the White Star Club, White Star Homemakers and was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women's group.

She is survived by two sons, Larry (Ann) Bernstein of Stoughton, Darryl (Mary) Bernstein of Evansville; five grandchildren: Denise (Steven) Sime, Angie (Sean) Brusegar, April (fiancé Curt Brekken) Bernstein, Randy (Lisa) Bernstein, Mike Bernstein; six great-grandchildren: Jessica Sime, Cole Brusegar, Brady Brusegar, BreeAnn Olson, Ashley (Cody) Bennington, Thomas Bernstein; a brother, Ray (Carol) Laughridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert on October 11, 2001; her parents, five sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Evansville with Reverend Sue Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Ward Funeral Home, Evansville, Wisconsin.
