Robert Martin passed away at the age of 80 with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born in Monroe, WI and graduated from Monroe High School in 1949 then attended Gale Institute of Minneapolis where he earned a degree in Railroad Accounting and Telegraphy.
He was drafted by the army in 1951, did his training at Camp Gordon, GA then various stops in the U.S. before ending up in Korea in '52. He spent 6 months at company H.Q. No. of Seoul and 8 months attached to 1st Marine Amphibious Battalion N.W. of Seoul near the confluence of the Han and Imjim Rivers. He left for the states the day after the war ended.
He came to Sacramento in 1957 where he married Joyce Huber and had two daughters. He worked for Southern Pacific R.R. for 17 years as a Telegrapher and Railroad Bridge Operator in and around Sacramento. He then became a coin dealer and had 2 shops over the years. He married Tahlie Byrd in 1981. He ended his career working as a pawn broker and coin dealer at Common To Key Loan and Jewelry.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ross and Clara (Nufer) Martin. He is survived by his wife Tahlie, daughters Carolyn Self (Hank) and Patti Martin (Richie) and stepson Jim; sister Glenda Hahn and brother Don Martin (Maralyn) also survived by grandchildren Brandon Brown, step-grandchildren Jessica and Jimmy; sister-in-law Marilynn Wheeler; many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
He will be cremated and buried at sea.
