Robert G. Ballard, 80, formerly of Freeport, died Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe, WI. Born on May 26, 1929 in Stephenson County, the son of LeRoy and Arley (Lestikow) Ballard.

Bob worked at Micro Switch as a master machinist for 35 years, retiring in 1988. After his retirement he worked on a ranch in Loran Township for several years.

He married Lois Gardner on July 21, 1951 at Fort Eustis, VA.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freeport and the American Legion.

Bob was a Korean Veteran serving from 1951-1953.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Monroe; two sons, William (Mary) Ballard of Madison, WI and Darell (Jacque) of Wheat Ridge, CO; three daughters, Virginia Wilson of Lena, Margaret (Rick) Retzlaff of Lena and Sarah (Terry) Fields of Browntown, WI; two brothers, Orlan and Richard Ballard; one sister, Dorothy Ohai of CA; four grandchildren, Mindy (Shawn) Becker of Lena, Joshua (Amber) Retzlaff of Orangeville, Brandy (Doug) Quinn of Freeport and Amy Wilson of Kentucky, also many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Rial, Lee Jr. and Doran; one sister, Betty; one son-in-law, Willie Wilson; and one granddaughter, Heather.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father Howard Barch will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
