VERONA/BELLEVILLE - Robert "Bob" Fritz Pulfer, age 80, of Verona, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at HospiceCare, Inc, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Toffen, Switzerland on March 2, 1930, the son of Ernst and Mathilde (Gysi) Pulfer. Bob was a certified cheese maker in Switzerland before coming to America in 1950. May 21, 1953 he was married to Esther Meier. He served in the Special Forces of the Swiss Army, the United States Army, worked as a cheese maker, and was a master stonemason. Bob was a passionate man who loved God, spending time with his family, Tug-of-War, fishing, and food, particularly good breads and cheeses. He is well known for his Swiss bread. Bob was a member of the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Paoli. He was co-founder and president of the United States Tug-of-War Association, a division of TWIF.

He is survived by his wife Esther; children: Louise (Larry) Brunkow of Oregon, April (Mark) Jenks of Blue Mounds, Darlene (Richard) Hendrickson of Belleville, Joanne of Monticello, Ernie (Kari) of Belleville, Julie (Jim) Miller of Barneveld, Angie (Bart) Morrick of Belleville, Theodore (Denise) of Madison; grandchildren: James Carpenter, Troy, Steven, and Analicia Jenks; Eric (Chantel) Hendrickson, Sara Hendrickson, Becky (Nick) Solberg; Jacob, Neil, and Tracy Pulfer; Jennifer, Jessie (Nichole), and Jordan Miller; Abe, Noah, and Isaac Morrick; Ben Pulfer; great-grandchildren: Jonah and Caleb Hendrickson, Elijah Solberg, Isabella and Kyrstin Speilman, Kaine and Peyton Miller; sisters, Mathilde (Franz) Jaggi of Belleville and Margrit (Peter) Leaderach of Switzerland; brothers, Hans (Helga) of Costa Rica, Theo (Elsbet) of Switzerland, and Heiri (Helena) of France; brothers-in-law Edward (MaryLou) Meier of Belleville and Donald (Vivian) Meier of Beaver Dam; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Fritz and Ernst; and sister-in-law Vreni Pulfer.

The family wishes to thank the staff at James Middleton Veteran's Hospital and Clinic and Hospice Care Inc.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2010, at the First United Church of Christ, 130 East Church St., Belleville, WI, with the Rev. Sara Thiessen and Chaplain Dean Heckel officiating, with burial in the Paoli Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI.
