GRATIOT - Robert "Baldy" D. Anderson, 81, of Gratiot beloved husband and best friend of Patricia (Steele) Anderson for 58 years, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 23, 2014. Robert was born February 3, 1933 in Gratiot the son of the late Albert and Lena (Korn) Anderson where he lived all of his life. He graduated from Gratiot High School in 1951 and attended the University of Wisconsin in Platteville. He also spent time in the Marines during the Korean War. After his retirement from Owner/Operator of Anderson Trucking, he wintered and golfed at Whispering Oaks Estate in Florida for 14 years. He was interested and active in community affairs, serving as mayor of Gratiot for many years. He was commander of the American Legion Post 177, a member of the VFW Post 9692 of Gratiot and founder of the Gratiot High School Alumni Association. Besides his wife "Patya," Baldy is survived by his children Pamela (Randy) Richardson, William Anderson, Kathy Nyffenegger, Lori (Tony) Guillory, brother Marvin and two sisters; Barbara Zimmerman and Virginia Anderson, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 5 sisters and son in-law Tim Alexander. Friends and relatives may attend a remembrance get together at the Gratiot Community Center from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday May 31, 2014. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery in Gratiot.
