Richard L. Lyons, age 63, of Monroe, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at his home. Dick was born July 3, 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Clarence L. and Elsie A. (Wyman) Lyons. He graduated from East Waterloo High School, Blackhawk Institute of Technology in Waterloo, and most recently Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville. He served in the U.S. Navy from October, 1963 until October, 1965. Dick married Susan Kay Lange on April 11, 1970 in Waterloo. They lived in Freeport, IL for eight years before moving to Monroe in 1980. Dick worked as a radio personality for 26 years at WFRL of Freeport, WRWC of Rockton, IL and WEKZ of Monroe.
Most recently he was self employed as a computer technician.
He was a member of Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church of Monroe where he was a former secretary/treasurer and served on the preschool board.
Dick enjoyed computers, crossword puzzles, reading, fishing, bowling, and was a Brewer and Packer fan.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Lyons of Monroe; two sons, Larry (Michele) Lyons of Chilton, WI, and Scott Lyons and fiancée Beth Jarosz, both of Monroe; six grandchildren, Halie, Kegan, Jacey, Bryson, Victoria, and Sadie; and his uncle, Bill Harper of Quincy, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two granddaughters, Courtney and Veronica Lyons.
Dick's life will be celebrated with a funeral service on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 1603 16th Ave., Monroe, with Pastor Donald Swartz officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
A memorial fund will be established in Richard's name for the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
