MONTICELLO - Richard Joel Unke, age 59, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 16, 2012 at his home. He was born on March 13, 1952 to his parents Ralph Paul and LaVerne Bernice (Spanley) Unke in Los Alamos, CO. Richard graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran Schools in Appleton, WI in 1969 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. On December 17, 1999 he was united in marriage to Barbara Anderson-Kubly at the Green County Courthouse in Monroe. Richard had worked for AMC in Racine until the factory closed. He then worked as an insulator in the construction industry working most recently for McDermaids Roofing and Insulation of Rockford he was also a member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Union Local #19. Richard was also a member of the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Monroe and served for six years on the church council, he was also the current treasurer for the Green County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed the northwoods, he also enjoyed caring for his meticulous lawn and gardens. He was a big Packers fan and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting activities and family gatherings.

Richard is survived by his loving and caring wife Barbara "Barbie" and her children and grandchildren which were not of Richard's own by blood they were his by heart and soul, Scott Kubly and Monticello High School superstar athlete daughters Jordyn and Alyssah, Brenda (Jim) Lawson and junior bowling star Bryce, Debbie (Joe) Elmer and college boy Trae and lil' honey Chloe Jean, and Jeff (Josie) Kubly and pumpkin pie singer Tatum, baby boo Kaelyn, and lil' monster Kole. He is further survived by his siblings Carol Ory of Elcho, WI, Laurel (John) Dobberfuhl of Mequon, WI, and David C. Unke of Germantown, WI. Richard is also survived by his special nieces Melanie Zander-Guth and family of Rhinelander, WI, Tiffany (Tim) Hall and family of Osseo, WI, and Valerie Ory and family of Rhinelander, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI with Pastor Donald Swartz officiating with burial in Highland Cemetery, Monticello.
