Ralph A. Zimmerman, age 90, of Stoughton, formerly of Monticello, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Stoughton Meadows Assisted Living. Ralph was born on July 29, 1926 in Monroe, the son of Amos and Kathryn (Gmur) Zimmerman. He married Mabel M. Wirth on May 14, 1946 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. Ralph and Mabel farmed in Washington Township for many years until moving to Madison in 1989. While in Madison, Ralph was employed at Bavaria Sausage for 10 years and also worked as a crossing guard for the Madison Police Dept. until retiring at age 81. He was a member of the Washington Reformation United Church of Christ, Monticello, and a former member of the Monticello Lions Club. He enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and arrowheads from his farm. Ralph was also a wine maker, loved to go dancing with his wife, and tend to his potato patch.

He is lovingly survived by three children, Christine Zimmerman of Stoughton, Michael Zimmerman and his partner Rowland Hughes, of Tampa, FL, and Cathy Zimmerman of Stoughton; grandchildren, Troy (Khristina), Jennifer, Jessica, Brittany, and Mitchell; three great-grandchildren, Cole, Xander, and August; five sisters, Valerie Torkelson of Monroe, Gloria Thoman of Monticello, Ilene Schneider of Lena, IL, Kay Krahenbuhl of Argyle, and Grace (Dennis) Feller of Oxford, MS; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life, Mabel on July 25, 2013, two sons, Roger Ralph in infancy, Ralph Roger at age 43; and two brothers, Dwight and Gordon Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Washington Reformation United Church of Christ with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 6, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home, 360 S. Garfield St., Monticello. A memorial fund will be established in Ralph's name. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net.
