Rachel H. Holcomb, age 89, of Monroe, died on Saturday, October 31, 2009, at the Monroe Manor. She was born on May 7, 1920 in Clarno Township, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Schroeder) Trumpy. She was a 1938 graduate of Monroe High School. Rachel and Earl R. Holcomb were married on June 17, 1941 in the parsonage of the Immanuel Church. Rachel was a longtime resident of Monroe, working for Oaktron Industries for 30 years. After her retirement she worked part-time at the Shopping News and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels in her black Oldsmobile. She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, attending until she could no longer drive. Rachel enjoyed bowling, dancing at Turner Hall, playing canasta, shuffleboard, swimming with her sister Clara, and traveling.
Surviving are her children, Linda (Dave) Robers of Franksville, Edward Holcomb of Madison, Kevin (Becky) Holcomb of Black River Falls; 5 grandchildren; brother, Alfred (Betty) Trumpy of Madison; sisters, Clara Briggs of Monroe, and Faith Johnson of Humboldt, Iowa. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl on March 15, 1964, and brother, George Trumpy.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, November 6, 2009, at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Booth. Burial will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. on Friday until the time of service at noon, at the Church. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is serving the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
Rachel was a good friend, daughter, wife, mom, and grandmother, she will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at the Monroe Manor for her care, the doctors and staff at the Monroe Clinic Hospital and Monroe Hospice.
