NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus Police Department received a complaint Nov. 10 about the attempted scam of an elderly resident.According to Police Chief Steve Allbaugh, the resident received a check from "City Glass Specialty, Inc.," from Fort Wayne, Ind., with instructions to send a money order in the amount of $2,700 to a specified location.Allbaugh said a letter was also sent with the check. The letter informed the person they had won the 2009 United States Sweepstakes lottery and the $2,700 would pay for taxes.The resident didn't send any money and contacted the police department.Allbaugh said the suspects target people between the ages of 75 and 85. Anyone who gets a suspicious letter or check in the mail should contact the police department, he said.- Brian Gray
