DARLINGTON - The City of Darlington Police Department reminds Darlington residents they to keep their sidewalks clear of snow and ice this winter. Darlington Municipal Code requires all occupants of homes abutting a public sidewalk to clear the entire width of the sidewalk of snow and ice within 24 hours of the cessation of any winter weather event.
City employees will be monitoring this problem throughout the winter months. Violators are subject to a fine of $135.60. In addition, the snow or ice may be removed by the Public Works Department and the cost charged as a special tax against the property.
Residents are also prohibited from depositing snow on city streets. Snow removed from sidewalks and driveways should never be pushed into the street. This causes a traffic hazard and can result in a $200.50 fine.
Residents who observe problems are asked to call City Hall at 776-4970.
