Monroe Police

MONROE - Thomas A. McLean, 27, Monroe, was arrested in the 2000 block of 4th Street at 8:37 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, on a hold issued by the Probation and Parole Office. He was jailed.



New Glarus Police

NEW GLARUS - On Tuesday, Sept. 8:

• At 3:29 p.m., police took a report of a heavy truck that drove over a tree grate and damaged the grate. Police located the company, and the company advised that they would take care of all the damage.

• A citizen complained at 5:30 p.m. about some harassing messages that she had been receiving. Police warned the suspect to stop or further legal action would be taken. The harassment did not stop. As a result, Adam S. Miller, 27, Monticello, was issued a municipal citation at 8:10 p.m. the following day for intimidation.

• A citizen came to police at 8 p.m. with a complaint about a custody dispute. Police advised both parties involved that this is a civil issue and to talk to their lawyers about it.

• A gas drive-off was reported at 9:03 p.m. in the 600 block of Wisconsin 69. The driver came back later and paid for the gas.

On Wednesday, Sept. 9:

• At 12:03 a.m., police made contact with a suspicious vehicle parked next to a business in the 1400 block of Wis. 69. The person in the vehicle was making a phone call.

• At 11:02 a.m., police verbally warned the operator of a vehicle that was illegally parked on 2nd Street.

• At 12:04 p.m., police took a report of a New Glarus citizen who lost a set of keys. If anyone found a set of keys, please bring them to the police department.

• At 5:45 p.m., police received another call about a scam in the area. The caller claims to be from the IRS and claims the IRS is going to sue the citizen. In this case, the caller called five times and gave different numbers every time. The citizen did not give out information to the caller and was not out any money. This is a very common scam that is going around the area.

• At 6:03 p.m., police received a complaint of a vehicle parked in a private driveway in the 500 block of Railroad Street. The complainant wanted the vehicle cited, and it was cited.

• Jared J. Smith, 29, Port Matilda, Pa., was cited for driving without a valid license and for a seatbelt violation after police stopped him for a registration violation at 6:10 p.m. on 14th Avenue at 4th Street.

On Thursday, Sept. 10:

• At 1:59 a.m., police saw a suspicious vehicle parked at a business in the 1400 block of Wis. 69. No one was around. The vehicle was logged as being in the area.

• Bobbi J. Sedlmayr, 60, Nelson, was cited for speeding at 8:11 p.m. in the 1100 block of Wis. 69.

• Tyler M. Bongiovanni, 18, Monticello, was cited for driving an unregistered vehicle and for driving without vehicle insurance after police stopped him for an equipment violation at 9:19 p.m. in the 600 block of Wis. 69.

• Dylan P. Ruef, 19, New Glarus, was cited for driving without vehicle insurance after police stopped him for an equipment violation at 10:41 p.m. in the 300 block of 4th Street.

• At 11:11 p.m., police took possession of a found bicycle in the 300 block of Railroad Street. If you lost a bicycle in that area, please contact the police department.

On Friday, Sept. 11:

• Garth D. Hammond, 80, Cleveland, Wis., was cited for speeding at 12:13 p.m. in the 1300 block of Wis. 69.

• At 3:46 p.m., a citizen reported a child custody issue occurring at New Glarus Elementary School. All parties involved were advised to contact an attorney.

• A report of a possible stolen bicycle from the 10 block of 4th Avenue was reported at 7:51 p.m.

• At 9:09 p.m., police found a bicycle in the 200 block of 4th Avenue. It was not the bicycle that was stolen earlier. If you have lost a bicycle in that area, please notify the police department.

• A citizen complained at 9:11 p.m. that there were a lot of aluminum strips in the roadway on Wis. 69 north of the village. New Glarus police assisted the Green County Sheriff's Office in picking up the metal.

On Saturday, Sept. 12:

• At 8:55 a.m., police responded to the Village Park for a report of a suspicious female subject who had been approaching people.

• At 4:09 p.m., police assisted a citizen who had locked their keys in their vehicle. The vehicle was unlocked without damage.

• A credit card was reported found in the 300 block of 6th Avenue at 6:45 p.m. Police returned the card to its owner.

• Darwin R. Guevara, 40, Madison, was cited for speeding and driving without a valid license at 10:01 p.m. in the 1100 block of Wis. 69.

On Sunday, Sept. 13:

• Police responded at 9:37 a.m. to a parking complaint in the 300 block of 2nd Street. The vehicle owner was located, and the vehicle was removed.

• Police received a loud music complaint at 9:53 a.m. in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue. Police advised the complainant that the activities going on in the Village Park had a permit starting at 8 a.m.

• Police responded to parking complaints of vehicles parked in no-parking zones on 4th Avenue at 10:41, 10:48 and 10:56 a.m.

• A juvenile causing a disturbance during the New Glarus Family Fest at Village Park was reported at 1:34 p.m. The juvenile was talked to and left shortly after.



Green County Sheriff

MONROE - On Monday, Sept. 15:

• Information is sought on the offender in a hit-and-run accident reported at 3:49 p.m. in the N6100 block of County E, Town of Albany. The victim, Gary L. Gempeler, 61, Albany, was northbound when he slowed and stopped for a vehicle ahead of him making a right turn into a driveway. The vehicle behind Gempeler rearended him, then drove around him and fled northbound on County E. Gempeler was uninjured in the crash. His vehicle sustained minor damage. The suspect vehicle was described as a newer Buick with a fancy grill. The driver was described as a male in his late teens to early twenties, with a female passenger. Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-422-7463 or the sheriff's office at 328-9400.

• Justin D. Kainz, 23, Monroe, was cited for driving with a revoked license at 5:27 p.m. in the W3500 block of County C, Town of Mount Pleasant.



Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - On Monday, Sept. 14:

• A deputy responded to check welfare at 2:38 a.m. on County I, Town of New Diggings.

• Harassing telephone calls were reported at 7:53 a.m. on West Water Street in Shullsburg.

• A deputy transported an Iowa County Jail inmate, Laura L. Gundlach, at 8:09 a.m. to the Lafayette County Courthouse for a court appearance.

• A deputy responded to check welfare at 11:44 a.m. on Gratiot Street in Gratiot.

• Harassment was reported at 3:40 p.m. on Johnson Road, Town of Shullsburg.

• A deputy responded at 6:18 p.m. to School Street in Blanchardville for a report of threats to injure.

• Livestock on the roadway was reported at 8:26 p.m. on Wis. 78, Town of Wiota.

• Jordan D. Bennett, 16, Shullsburg, was cited for speeding (45-plus mph over the limit) at 10:03 p.m. on Wis. 23, Town of Darlington.

• Deputies responded at 10:11 p.m. to check welfare on Johnson Road, Town of Shullsburg.
