Monroe Police

MONROE - On Wednesday, Nov. 13:

• A 15-year-old girl at Monroe High School was referred at 8:35 a.m. for first-offense truancy.

• An officer on patrol at 11:25 a.m. in the 2100 block of 16th Avenue noticed a door standing open on a house known to be vacant. There was no sign of a break-in.

• A petitioner in a harassment injunction complained at 3:21 p.m. that the respondent had violated the order by coming within 100 yards of a home in the 800 block of 22nd Avenue. An officer measured the distance to where the respondent had been and found it to be 102 yards, therefore within a legal distance.

• Police were called to investigate the death of a 54-year-old man at 4:37 p.m. in the 2600 block of 8th Street. No sign of foul play is suspected in the man's death.

• A child custody dispute was reported at 6:06 p.m. in the 1000 block of 23rd Street. Police referred the involved parties to court.

On Thursday, Nov. 14:

• A 911 call at 11:14 a.m. was traced to the 1100 block of 18th Avenue. Nobody was in the area and no emergency was located.

• Police stood by to keep the peace at 11:33 a.m. in the 2300 block of 16th Avenue while an ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend exchanged property.

• Police were called to the 1600 block of 14th Avenue at 1:38 p.m. for a dispute between two male ex-roommates involving allegations of harassing texts. Police advised the complainant to just leave the other man alone.



Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - A deputy checked welfare at several homes on County M in Wiota Township at 8:32 p.m. after several 911 hangup calls were traced to the area. The calls were possibly made by a child playing with a phone, but no verbal contact could be made with the caller. The deputy did not locate any problems or need for emergency services in the area.
