Monroe Police

MONROE - Robert T. Baldwin, 56, Monroe, was arrested in the 1300 block of 16th 1/2 Street at 6:22 p.m. on a warrant issued by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was jailed.



Green County Sheriff

MONROE - On Thursday, Dec. 5:

• Jerry V. Coplien, 22, Orangeville, was cited for driving with a suspended license (fourth offense) at 12:09 a.m. on Wis. 69 at 17th Street in Monroe.

• Garrett J. Nickel, 32, Janesville, was arrested on a fourth-offense charge of driving while under the influence of an intoxicant (prescription narcotic), after deputies observed a vehicle speeding, going into the ditch and then almost causing a crash with another vehicle at 1:30 a.m. in the W3700 block of Wis. 11 in Sylvester Township. Nickel was also charged with possession of a Schedule IV narcotic, a prescription drug for which he allegedly has no prescription, and cited for speeding, reckless driving, driving without vehicle insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia (a marijuana one-hitter). He was jailed pending court. Monroe police assisted with the case. Court records indicate jail deputies found 29 10-milligram tablets of Diazepam in a ziplock bag in his undergarments. He was arrested again at 11:50 a.m. at Monroe Clinic on a charge of disorderly conduct. Jail staff sent him there for medical treatment and report that he used loud, profane language with the hospital staff. Nickel entered not-guilty pleas to all charges in court and has a pretrial conference Feb. 25.

• Megan Leigh Norton, 20, Monticello, was cited for first-offense driving while intoxicated (drug- and alcohol-related), possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, underage person transporting intoxicants, driving with a suspended license and passing into oncoming traffic at 2:01 a.m. after a sheriff's department squad car was forced off the road on Wis. 11 west of County S in Jefferson Township.



Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - On Thursday, Dec. 5:

• A deputy responded at 7:50 a.m. to a 911 hangup call traced to Porter Road in Wiota Township. Everything at the residence was found to be OK.

• Joseph J. Grant, 24, Blanchardville, was arrested on charges of domestic abuse-related disorderly conduct, battery and strangulation at 3:10 p.m. in South Wayne, and a Lafayette County deputy assisted Blanchardville police by transferring Grant to the custody of a Green County deputy. Grant was jailed in Green County. Grant faces a Class A misdemeanor charge in Green County of carrying a concealed weapon. Court records indicate he was found during a traffic stop in New Glarus Tuesday, Dec. 3, with a .22 caliber pistol hidden under a blue blanket in the vehicle's center console. A not-guilty plea is entered in the case, and he has a pretrial conference Jan. 21.
