Perry Johnston Power, 94, passed away Feb. 21, 2017 from complications of old age. He was born in Chicago, Oct. 3, 1922 to Perry J. and Margaret (Unser) Power. He spent most of his childhood in Lake Mills, Wisconsin, graduating from Lake Mills High School in 1940. He attended the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison, though was better known for riding his motorcycle up the stairs of Jones Hall than his grades.
He started working at Morey's Airport near Madison in 1940. He taught naval pilots to fly from 1942-1943 as a civilian before being drafted in 1944. He achieved 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps while in Pampas TX. Pampas was in a dry county, so he became popular by flying to Amarillo where he purchased booze for his buddies. In 1947 he was hired by Ray Kubly and the Swiss Colony where he worked initially as their corporate pilot, later being promoted to Vice President in charge of Production. He retired in 1985 after 47 years.
He married Marie Beduhn June 10, 1951 and celebrated their 60th anniversary prior to Marie's death in 2011.
He was president of the Monroe Lions Club, leader in Indian Guides, was a 3rd degree Mason, a member of the Monroe Country Club and Monroe Curling Club. He loved traveling and playing golf making many trips to Scotland and Ireland with his son Chip.
He is survived by his daughter Sandy Schlaudecker and her husband Jim, his son Chip and his wife Patty, grandchildren Adam Schlaudecker (Christa), Perry (P.J.) Power V, Taylor Deciano (Ryan), and Zack Power, great-grandchildren Zoey Deciano and Perry J. Power VI, and step-grandchildren Aime, Jani, Jim, Jeff, Justin, and Tyler.
Memorials can be made in Perry's name to the United Way of Green County, the Green County Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
