Patrick Francis Thorpe age 81 of Monroe, died Monday, March 19, 2012 at Harbor House in Monroe.
He was born December 23, 1930 in Monroe, the son of Frank and Grace (Hefty) Thorpe. Fran graduated from Monroe High School and entered the U.S. Army on March 8, 1951. He was honorably discharged on March 9, 1953. He owned and operated Thorpe Paint and Wallpaper in Monroe for over 40 years. He served two terms as Mayor of Monroe from 1984 - 1988.
Fran was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish and the American Legion Post #84.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, James Stovall, John W. Tschanz, Charles M. Tschanz, Mary Kay Tschanz, Thomas T. Tschanz, George A. Bowman III, and Daniel A. Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Patricia Steinmann, Kathryn Tschanz, and Rosemary Bowman; and a nephew, Bill Stovall.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Father Michael Klarer, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Fran's name for the Apostolate to the Handicapped. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
