DARLINGTON - The City of Darlington Police Department has issued a reminder about dog regulations:
- All dogs must be restrained and are not permitted to run at large. Darlington municipal code defines a restrained dog as "one controlled by a leash, at 'heel' beside a competent person and obedient to that person's commands; on or within a vehicle being driven or parked on the streets; or within the property limits of its owner or keeper." Residents should ensure their restrained dog's leash cannot reach neighboring property or public sidewalks.
- All dogs must have rabies vaccination and city license.
- No one may keep a dog with a "tendency to attack or otherwise endanger the safety of human beings as evidenced by habitual or repeated chasing or snapping, or barking and/or snarling in a threatening manner."
- Owners must clean up after dogs being walked, as required by municipal code.
Officers encourage residents to comply with these regulations in order to avoid fines and animal impoundment. More information is available by contacting the Darlington Police Department at (608) 776-4980 or at the police links on the city's website at www.darlingtonwi.org.
