MONROE - A New Glarus man has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with a traffic accident that injured a 1-year-old child and the boy's mother.
Carmen F. Ott, 61, was charged Dec. 12 in Green County Circuit Court with operating while intoxicated, fifth or sixth offense, and two counts of OWI causing injury. In addition, he faces felony charges of driving with a prohibited alcohol content and two counts of causing injury while driving impaired. He also faces misdemeanors for possession of THC and drug paraphernalia.
The charges stem from an accident Nov. 1 in New Glarus Township. Ott was southbound when he crossed over the center line while turning into a driveway, and drove into the path of a northbound vehicle.
Ott was critically injured and taken by Medflight to University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. He had to be extricated from his vehicle, which was severely damaged.
The other driver, Lindsay K. Dahmen, 33 and her toddler son were treated for injuries at Meriter Hospital in Madison.
Ott has five previous OWI convictions between 1997 and 2004.
