WINSLOW - Neva J. Bartelt, 84, of Winslow, IL, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. She was born August 10, 1930 in Monroe, WI, the daughter of Rudolph and Rose (Vogel) Krebs and the youngest of seven children. Neva married Donald Bartelt on June 13, 1948 in McConnell, IL.
Neva and Donald farmed their entire lives in the Winslow area. She was always in the barn milking the cows and taking care of the animals than in the house. Neva took care of many cats and was very fond of Norwegian Elkhound dogs. She enjoyed polka music and watching the polka show on television, and was proud of her Swiss heritage. Neva was famous for her homemade apple pie and dinner rolls. She enjoyed attending steam threshing shows and flea markets, and especially looked forward to attending Pioneer Days each September in Albany, MN.
Neva is survived by two sons - Sidney (Bonnie) Stark and Steve "Herm" (Christine) Bartelt; a grandson Rodney (Sandy) Stark and a great grandson Adam Stark all of Winslow. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friends: Judy Schopf, Scot Raymer, Richard, Bernadine and Glenn Sauer.
Neva was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 2006, her parents, her brothers and sisters, and special friend, Eddie Crain.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015 at Leamon Funeral Home in Winslow.
A visitation will be held starting at 12:00 p.m. until time of service.
Officiating will be Pastor Kevin Cernek.
Interment will be at Rock Lily Cemetery in Winslow.
A memorial has been established for Winslow Cemetery Association.
