MONROE - A woman convicted of embezzling thousands of dollars from the Albany Sports Boosters was sentenced to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service.
Sarah K. Mueller, 22, Monroe, pleaded no contest Nov. 19 to two Class A misdemeanor counts of theft, as part of a plea agreement.
Judge James Beer also ordered her to pay about $3,300 in restitution, plus court costs, and maintain employment and undergo any recommended counseling. Mueller is eligible to have the convictions expunged from her record under a state law that grants leniency to youthful offenders.
Mueller racked up almost $5,000 in unauthorized transactions between late January and late February this year while entrusted with the Albany Sports Boosters debit card, according to court records.
The Boosters is a volunteer-run club that raises money for scholarships and equipment upgrades for Albany High School sports. The club's debit card is intended only for purchases for the school snack bar.
Court records indicate Mueller used the card to withdraw cash from ATMs, to buy clothes, a digital camera, a smartphone and gas and to help her boyfriend pay for a "promise ring" for herself.
Mueller is an Albany High School graduate and was involved in the Boosters since she graduated. State court records show no previous court record for her.
