Mary Lou Ringhand, age 85, of Albany, died on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born in Albany May 16, 1924, the daughter of Walter and Theresa (Hoelting) Wood. She graduated from Albany High School, MATC in Madison in Nursing, and Clown College in La Crosse.
Mary Lou and Maurice O. Ringhand were married August 1, 1945 at the 1st Baptist Church in Albany. Mary Lou worked at Badger Ordinance Plant near Baraboo during Korean War, was a School Bus driver for Albany Schools, a Nurse at Pleasant View Nursing Home for 25 years, Nurse for Caring Hands in Brodhead, and was a Private Practice Nurse. She was the last surviving member of Gap Church, rural Albany; attended Hilltop Community Church in Albany , where she served as a Sunday School Teacher; member & officer of Albany American Legion Auxiliary Unit #144 for 68 years, and Green County Council of American Legion Auxiliary; & Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign War #2312 of Monroe; Wisconsin China Painters; Albany Historical Society; and former member of Albany Eastern Star. Mary Lou was Albany Area Volunteer of the year for 2003.
Surviving are her children, Phillip Ringhand of Albany, WI, Bonnie T. Zurfluh of Albany, WI, Fred Ringhand of Albany, WI, and John (Denice) Ringhand of North Pole, Alaska; brother, Frank Wood of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Carol Simmonson of Janesville, WI; grandchildren, Israel (Debbie) Zurfluh, Zane, Zach, & Freddie Ringhand, and Scott Miller; great-grandchildren, Jason & Mandi Hanson; and great-great-granddaughter, McKenzie Briggs. She was predeceased by her Parents; Husband; and son-in-law, Robert Zurfluh.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Hilltop Community Church in Albany with Pastor Rick Gleason officiating. Burial will follow in Gap Cemetery on west Hwy 59.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive & 18th Avenue in Monroe, WI.
A Memorial Fund is being established in Mary Lou's memory.
