STOCKTON - Marjorie H Bass, age 93, passed away on January 31, 2013 at New Glarus Home in New Glarus, WI. She was born on April 13, 1919 in Bishop, IL to Ezra and Bertha Plapp. Marjorie's father Ezra was a pastor in the Evangelical United Brethren Church and thus the family lived and served in several different communities in Illinois during her youth. The family lived in Malta, Naperville, Belvidere, Bishop, Walnut, Cullom, Stockton, Hoopole, and Davis.
Marjorie graduated from Geneso High School in 1937 and was married to Raymond Bass August 7, 1938. Together they farmed in Stockton, Kent, Shannon, and Lena areas, and retired to their home in Stockton, IL in 1980. Raymond passed away on December 9, 1992.
Marjorie was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Stockton, IL where she was very involved, served as the church organist for 25 years, and considered the people at Calvary as her church family. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, ceramics, pottery, and scrap booking. She also enjoyed entertaining at Morgan Memorial Home.
On November 15, 2003 Marjorie went to live in an assisted living facility, St. Claire Friedensheim, in Monroe, WI., where she resided until May 1, 2012 when she became a resident of the New Glarus Home.
Marjorie is survived by three sons; Gene (Karen) Evansville WI, Ralph (Dianne) Lena IL, Robert (Anne) Sarasota FL, daughter-in-law Marlis (Paul) Orangeville IL; ten grandchildren; Scott (Julie) Bass Orangeville IL, Terri Bass Orangeville IL, Tim (Ann) Bass Sun Prairie WI, Stephanie (Troy) Faust Sun Prairie WI, Todd (Caprice) Bass Aurora CO, Rachel (Rob) Guennewig Champaign IL, Rodney (Lisa) Bass Princeton NJ, Angela (Steve) Chang Beijing China, Eric (Teresa) Bass Bloomington Ind, Micheal (Lori) Bass Martinville Ind; 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by a son Paul, a daughter-in-law Geneva, a great granddaughter, Cassidy, and her entire immediate family: her Father, Ezra; mother, Bertha; three sisters, Dorothy Baumgartner, Beulah Ioder, and Lois Mitchell; four brothers, Willis, Calvin, Vance, and Gayle.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 315 W Maple Ave, Stockton IL 61085 on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00am until the time of service. Burial will be at the Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton, IL.
