Marjorie Elizabeth (Baker) Edler, Monroe, passed away Thursday May 19, 2011 at 81 years of age. She was born in rural Lena, Illinois on November 11, 1929 and graduated in the class of 1947 from Freeport High School. On February 10, 1951 she married William Hayes Edler at the Lena Amity Church. Marge worked for 26 years at Furst McNess Co in Freeport, IL as an Administrative Secretary and as an Assistant Advertising Manager. In 1973 Marge started at the Swiss Colony as an Administrative Assistant to the Sr. Vice President and retired in 1995. She returned part time up until her death and enjoyed working with her co-workers and for Forrest Kubly at the Swiss Colony.
Marge was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe Kiwanis Club and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Green County. She was a Big Sister mentor to Lisa Cheatham for 8 years, and served on the boards of the Kiwanis Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Literacy Council. Marge was an avid card-maker, teaching a monthly card-making class at the Monroe Senior Center and crafted 100 cards a year to send to soldiers serving overseas. She had a passion for Dalmatian dogs and was a member of the Green County Humane Society.
Marge was survived in death by her three sisters; Irene (Floyd) Julius, Eldora (Norris) Smith and Lucille Baker; several nieces and nephews; her special friends the Swenson, Sacker and Lewis families, Kara Schulte and Beverly Keller and will be dearly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Ida (Busjahn) Baker, her husband William H. Edler and her Little Sister Lisa Cheatham.
Memorial Funds may be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Green County, Monroe Kiwanis Club and Green County Humane Society.
Funeral services will be held at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke funeral home, 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Ave., Monroe, Wisconsin Wednesday, May 25 at 1:00 P.M. Burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home.
