DARLINGTON - Marion E. Thomas, age 88 of Darlington, WI, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at her home with her family at her side. She was born on February 5, 1927 to J. Bernard and Berniece (Smith) McGowan. She graduated from Darlington High School in the Class of 1943 and attended Platteville Teachers College. She taught in rural schools in the Darlington area. On May 29, 1947, she married Charles E. Thomas at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage. Together, they raised seven children. Marion enjoyed her family and her grandchildren. She loved to dance, golf, visit the casino, and made great pickles. She was an impeccable housekeeper, a wonderful cook, and showed gracious hospitality to everyone who visited her home. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and faithfully attended. She was also a member of Holy Rosary CCW and the Darlington Country Club where she enjoyed Tuesday Ladies' League.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie; her children: Therese (Jim) Gratz; Diane Douglas, Kathy (Tom) Johnson, Beth (Dan) Prine, all of Darlington, Ted (Amy) Thomas of Argyle, Clara (Greg) Mathien of Knoxville, TN; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings: Rita Martin, Imelda Olson, Bill (Sandy) McGowan, Janet (Gaylord) Mosley, Kay (Tom) Olson; an aunt, Agnes Smith of Rockford; many Godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tom, in 1968; her grandson, Jay Schwartz in 2013; great-grandchildren: Riley Schwartz in 2005 and Elsie Millie in 2012; her siblings: Bud and Bob McGowan and Janice in infancy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 104 E. Harriet St., Darlington, WI, with Fr. John Bosco Pudhota officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the funeral at Bridges in Darlington. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH. The STEIL CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, WI, is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
