Marion E. Deppeler age 87 of Brodhead, formerly of Monroe, died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Woods Crossing in Brodhead. Marion was born May 8, 1925 in Monroe, the daughter of Henry M. and Rosa (Gehrig) Marty. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1943 and St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. Marion married Albert H. Deppeler on Feb. 2, 1947 at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Monroe. Marion worked as a registered nurse in the maternity ward at St. Clare Hospital for many years and as a bookkeeper for the Deppeler businesses most of her life.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and was active on the St. John's Garden Apartments building committee. Marion was a life member of the St. Agnes School of Nursing (Marion College) Alumni Association and was active in the Green County Historic Cheesemaking Center and the Monticello and Monroe Historical Societies. She and Albert were charter members of the Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association, co-founders of the Green County Forestry Education Center, and were recognized as WI tree farmer of the year in 1983 and regional tree farmer of the year in 1984. Marion loved the outdoors and had a passion for her flowers and the timber.

She is survived by her siblings, Henry J. (Carol) Marty of Monroe, Helen (Merrill) Woodward of Fitchburg, WI, and Willis (Beverly) Marty of Pasco, WA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert, on July 12, 2008; and a foster son, Ron Ginner.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe, with Rev. Gretchen Sylvester officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe.
